On 23 June 2026, we celebrated International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), recognising the outstanding contributions women make to engineering and the vital role they play in shaping our future.
Every day, engineers use innovation, technical expertise and problem-solving skills to overcome complex challenges, improve the way we live and work, and deliver projects that benefit communities for generations to come. Their work is at the heart of major projects such as Hinkley Point C.
To mark the occasion, Sarah Guyon, Unite Women in Construction Representative, organised an engineering-themed quiz at Hinkley Point C. The quiz was open to everyone on site, whether they were Unite members or not, giving all workers the opportunity to take part in the celebrations.
The quiz was promoted throughout the day during the Women in Construction Support Table sessions held across the site, helping to raise awareness of both International Women in Engineering Day and the support available through the Women in Construction initiative.
Participants tested their knowledge on engineering, construction safety, nuclear energy and the achievements of pioneering women in engineering.
As part of the celebrations, both women and men were invited to collect the new Unite the Union – Women in Construction lanyard pins. The response was extremely positive, with many workers proudly taking a pin to show their support for women working across the engineering and construction industries.
The pins can be worn both on site and in office environments, allowing everyone to demonstrate their support for the Women in Construction initiative wherever they work.
