Following Our Menopause & Andropause Awareness Event at Hinkley Point C
Working Together, Stronger Together!
On Wednesday 28th October 2026, Hinkley Point C hosted a successful Menopause & Andropause Awareness Event at Jason Waring Hall, organised by Sarah Guyon, Unite Women in Construction Representative, with the support of Unite the Union and Women at HPC (NNB).
The event welcomed colleagues from across the site, regardless of gender, age or role, providing an opportunity to learn, ask questions and openly discuss subjects that are often overlooked or considered taboo.
An Informative and Inspiring Guest Speaker
We were delighted to welcome Rae-Marie Reading, a licensed Menopause Champion and Coach, as well as a Menopause Awareness, Beauty and Holistic Educator.
Rae-Marie works with businesses and communities to raise awareness of menopause and provide guidance and support. She is also a radio co-presenter on 105.5 FM, where she discusses women's health and wellbeing.
Throughout both sessions, Rae-Marie shared valuable information about menopause, perimenopause and andropause, helping attendees better understand the symptoms, challenges and support available.
One of the main aims of the event was to raise awareness of andropause, often referred to as the male menopause, a subject that is not discussed enough, particularly within the construction industry.
Many attendees were unfamiliar with andropause before the event. By the end of the sessions, they had gained a better understanding of the subject, the signs to look out for and where to seek advice or support, whether for themselves or someone close to them.
Learning, Having Fun and Winning Prizes!
Two sessions took place during the day, at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, allowing colleagues to attend around their working schedules.
At the end of each presentation, attendees were invited to take part in a fun and interactive quiz based on the information shared by Rae-Marie.
The quiz included 12 questions, with just 15 seconds to answer each one!
Participants were challenged to think quickly, with winners determined by both correct answers and speed.
There were three winners per session, each receiving a £60 gift voucher, making a total of six winners across the day.
This was a great way to encourage participation, reinforce the information shared and make learning enjoyable for everyone.
Unite representatives were also available throughout the event, providing information, advice and support, alongside useful resources, flyers and giveaways.
Breaking the Silence and Supporting Each Other
One of the most important messages of the day was simple: Nobody should feel alone when facing health or wellbeing challenges.
Menopause and andropause can affect physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence, relationships and everyday working life.
The event aimed to break down barriers and create an environment where everyone felt comfortable asking questions and learning more about these important subjects.
Attendees were also reminded that Unite the Union is here to support its members, including with workplace concerns, mental health and wellbeing.
Rae-Marie Reading is also available to provide further guidance and support to anyone who may have personal questions or concerns about menopause, perimenopause or andropause.
Anyone wishing to discuss their situation privately can contact Rae-Marie directly:

The event was about more than raising awareness. It was about reducing stigma, encouraging open conversations and reminding colleagues that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
A Big Thank You!
A huge thank you to Rae-Marie Reading for delivering two informative and engaging presentations, and to everyone who attended, participated and helped make the event a success.
Special thanks go to Sarah Guyon, Unite Women in Construction Representative, for organising the event, and to Unite the Union and Women at HPC (NNB) for their valuable support and contributions.
Events like this demonstrate the importance of raising awareness, supporting one another and creating a workplace where everyone feels included, respected and able to seek help when needed.
Menopause Isn't Just a Women's Issue – It's a Workplace Issue.
Menopause and andropause awareness should concern everyone. Whether you are experiencing symptoms yourself or supporting a partner, family member, friend or colleague, understanding these changes can make a real difference.
